First of all, I would just like to get the word out that IAFF Brothers and Sisters in Sioux City, IA Local 7 are a big part of a motorcycle rally that contributes $25,000 each year to St. Florian Fire and Burn Foundation that was also founded by Local 7 Fire Fighter’s along with a partnership with St. Lukes Burn Center nurses (Which no longer exists in St. Lukes now). St. Florian has been involved with helping so many young burn survivors and I think that if IAFF members (especially motorcycle enthusiasts) across IA and the States knew about this neat event it would be a perfect match to have a ride around this event but mostly have IAFF motorcycle enthusiasts aware of an event that is known to benefit burn survivors and fire prevention programs to the people that we serve by IAFF members.
Awesome Biker Nights was founded as a charity rally and It’ first and sole benefactor was St. Florian. As Awesome grew, we took on more charities and now we can maintain our funding of St. Florian and many other charities in our city. We have given nearly $600,000 to all of our participating charities to date and this event will be in it’s 11th year this year. This event is 100% non-profit and all proceeds go to charity. It is a board of approx 12 non-paid members that organize entertainment and volunteers that make this event happen for three days each year.
I need help getting the word out about this event to our IAFF members in Iowa and surrounding states. I would like to see you use the power of your position to propel this message to anyone that would get this to a more recognized level. I would also like to see you use the emails of all MG members to distribute information about this event to all the IAFF-MG members. I know it is too late to organize anything around this year but to email everyone would be helpful for those who may still be looking for a neat event yet this year to ride too. All of our promotion is done through sponsorships with certain local radio, tv and print. We rely on sponsorships to get the word out as we do not pay for major advertising and just see how we have grown with that.
This event can draw up 20,000 plus people over a week end and is a must see festival. The neat thing about it is that it is more of a community festival and although it themes around bikes, people come out in mass just to see the event, entertainment and the bikes whether they have one or not. All this takes place on Historic 4th street downtown Sioux City, ia.
I CC’d this to Larry Bliven who is Local 7 Vice President this year. Larry was a founding member of Awesome and also a strong or maybe founding member of St. Florian. He is also putting together an IPFFA convention here in Sioux City this year following Awesome the week after. He would be a good resource to get to know more facts about St. Florian and Awesome Biker Nights if you anyone wanted to know. Larry also organizes the volunteer spots for all the participating Local 7 firefighters this year.
Thanks and if any of this is possible let me know. Anything would be appreciated. If you wanted to use our logo on the website, I would have to get permission as it is copyrighted but that should be no problem. Just let me know if you want that and I will make it happen. It is no problem to place a link to us in emails.
Thanks again,
Troy Sonichsen
